How can we help?

Pick a topic below, or email us at hello@yippie.me.

Devices and setup

Shared device or multiple devices: which should we choose?

Shared suits families with one tablet or laptop that gets passed around. Everyone taps their avatar on the “Who's using Yippie?” screen, and Parent mode needs your PIN.

Multiple devices suits families where kids have their own tablet or phone. Each kid's device is paired to their profile, and parents use their own phones. You can also mix both. Change it any time in Settings → Devices.

How do I pair a kid's tablet?

In Parent mode go to Settings → Devices → Pair a device and choose the child. A QR code and a 6-character code appear.

On the kid's tablet, open yippie.me/join, then scan the QR code with the camera or type the code. Codes expire after 24 hours and work once. The child doesn't need an email address.

How do I invite my partner, a grandparent or a carer?
In Parent mode go to Settings → Family → Invite. Choose Parent (full access) or Helper (can approve tasks and give small bonuses, but can't change settings). They'll get an email with a link to create their own login. Invites last 7 days.
We cleared the browser on our iPad. Is everything gone?
No. Everything is stored safely on our servers. Open Yippie, sign in with your parent account (or pair the device again with a code) and all your kids' history, avatars and coins will be there.

PINs and safety

What is the Parent PIN for?
On a shared device, the Parent PIN keeps kids out of Parent mode, even if they type /parent into the address bar or press back. Parent mode locks itself again after a minute without activity. After 5 wrong tries there's a 5-minute cooldown and parents get an alert.
I forgot my Parent PIN.
On the PIN screen, choose “Sign in with your password”. Once you're in, set a new PIN in Settings → Profile. Forgot your password too? Use Forgot password to get a reset link.
Can kids have a PIN?
Yes, optionally. Little kids can use a picture PIN (four pictures in order) and older kids a number PIN, so siblings can't sneak into each other's profiles on a shared device.
Can I unlock with Face ID or Touch ID?
Yes. In Parent mode go to Settings → Profile → Face ID & passkeys and add a passkey on your own phone or the family device. Then tap “Use Face ID / passkey” on the Parent mode screen. Your PIN and password still work too.

Offline and notifications

Does Yippie work offline?
Yes, once it has loaded at least once on that device. Kids can complete quests, log reading, browse the store and edit their avatar offline. Actions show as “waiting to sync” and send automatically when you're back online, with no double coins.
How do I get notifications on iPhone or iPad?

Apple only allows web notifications for sites added to the home screen (iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later):

1. Open Yippie in Safari. 2. Tap the Share button. 3. Choose Add to Home Screen. 4. Open Yippie from your home screen and turn on notifications in Settings → Notifications.

How do I install Yippie on Android or a computer?
In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon in the address bar or open the menu (⋮) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. Yippie then opens in its own window, like any other app.
Notifications at bedtime are annoying.
Set quiet hours in Settings → Notifications (8pm to 7am by default). Approval requests wait until morning, and you'll still see them in the in-app bell.

Coins and rewards tips

Why two kinds of coins?

Helping at home is part of being a family, so everyday chores, routines, reading and kindness earn silver coins. Silver buys experiences and privileges, like choosing the movie or being DJ in the car, plus avatar items and other fun extras. It never turns into money.

Gold coins are for real-world value. They come only from extra jobs you mark as paid (washing the car, mowing the lawn) and an optional fixed weekly allowance, which suits teens learning to budget. Gold buys pocket money and physical things like books or LEGO. You set the rate (10 gold = $1 to start).

The two wallets never swap. When your child wants to cash out gold, they ask you in person, you hand over the money and record it in their gold wallet. Gold is hidden for ages 4–7 unless you turn it on, so little ones keep things simple.

How many coins should a task be worth?

For everyday jobs, start with the Simple preset: easy jobs 5 silver, medium 10, hard 20 and epic 50. A good rule of thumb is that a favourite small reward should take two or three days of effort, and a big one a few weeks.

For paid extra jobs, Yippie suggests 5, 10, 20 or 50 gold by difficulty. At the starting rate of 10 gold = $1, washing the car for 20 gold earns $2. You can change the rate in Settings → Family, and every paid job can have its own amount.

How do allowance and cashing out work?

An allowance is a fixed amount of gold paid once a week on the day you choose, with no conditions attached, so it's a budgeting lesson rather than a wage. It suits teens, and you can turn it on for any child who has gold switched on.

There's no “request money” button. When your child wants to cash out, they ask you in person. Hand over the money, then open their gold wallet in Parent mode and record the amount with a note like “Paid $5 cash”. It shows in their wallet history and can never take their balance below zero.

What makes a good reward?
Mix small, frequent rewards (15 minutes of screen time, choosing the bedtime story) with experiences (a park trip, baking together) and a few bigger goals to save for. Experiences and one-on-one time often motivate more than things.
How do I stop it becoming just about the coins?
Use the praise stickers and voice notes when you approve, celebrate effort rather than perfection, and encourage kids to reflect when they finish a goal. Over time, try fading coins on habits that have stuck while keeping the praise.
What happens if I decline a reward request?
The coins go straight back to your child's wallet, silver or gold, and they'll see any note you add, like “Let's do it next weekend!”.

Rooms, pets and holiday mode

How do pets work?

A parent gifts each pet, choosing the animal (there are 12, from a puppy to a baby dragon) and its name. It lives in your child's room and can walk beside their avatar. One pet per kid is free, and Family+ allows up to 4.

Kids feed and play with their pet each day. A meal uses one portion of food, and more food costs a little silver. You can also send food as a gift from their profile in Parent mode. With care, pets grow from baby to young to grown-up over a few weeks and learn tricks along the way.

Pets never get sick or sad, and they never run away. If nobody looks after them for a day, they just get sleepy until the next snack and game.

What can kids buy for their room?

Beds, rugs, wall colours, posters, desks, lamps, bookshelves, window views and decor, all paid for with silver (never gold or real money). Every room starts with a free starter set, and kids aged 8 and up get a few free decor spots to arrange as they like. Little ones decorate the fixed spots only, which keeps it simple.

Some upgrades can't be bought: the room grows as your child levels up, with a window, a second shelf, a loft bed, fairy lights and a reading nook. Family+ adds themed room packs (space station, jungle hideout and under the sea). You can also give your child an item from their profile in Parent mode.

What is holiday mode?

A switch for family trips, sick weeks or school holidays. It pauses quests, streaks and pet needs for everyone at once: no new quests are scheduled, streaks don't break, and pets relax instead of getting sleepy. Allowance and savings interest keep going.

Turn it on in Parent mode under Settings → Family & parents. While it's on, the dashboard shows a banner with an End holiday button, and everything picks up again from that day.

Can I change or remove a pet?
Yes. In Parent mode open your child's profile, then the Room & pet tab. Owners and parents can rename a pet or remove it. A removed pet goes to live with the Yippie pet friends, so it's gone from your child's room, but you can always gift a new one. Any parent or helper can send pet food from the same screen.
My child had a companion on their avatar. Where did it go?
Companions became pets. A companion your child was wearing became their first pet, with the same animal and its usual name, a week of care days already counted and some food in the bowl. Companions bought with silver but not worn were refunded to their silver wallet.

Friends

How do friends work?

Friends is free and off until you switch it on. In Parent mode, open your child's profile, choose the Friends tab, read what's shared, tick that you agree and choose Switch on friends. You do this once for each child.

Only owners and admins can do this. Then kids add each other in person. One kid opens Friends in Kid mode and shows a 6-character code or QR code, and the other types or scans it. A code lasts 10 minutes and works once. Both families' parents get a notification about the new friend.

Friends can visit each other's rooms and send one of 4 preset reactions: high five, wow, love it or cheer. There's no messaging of any kind.

Is it safe? Can strangers find my child?

No, strangers can't find your child. There's no search, no list of kids, no suggestions and no friends-of-friends. The only way to become friends is to swap a short-lived code in person, wrong guesses are limited, and siblings can't add each other.

Friends can't message each other, only send preset reactions. You're told about every new friend, you can remove any of them, and switching friends off hides your child's profile straight away. Your child's display name is the nickname you set, so use a nickname or first name only. Read more in our privacy policy.

What can friends see?

Your child's nickname, avatar and pet, their room (to look at only), their badges and level, and the titles and stars of books they've finished.

Never coins, money, tasks, approvals, goals, growth or health records, location, school or book reviews. A friend's profile only shows while both kids have friends switched on.

How do I remove a friend?
In Parent mode, open your child's profile and choose the Friends tab. Next to each friend there's a Remove button. The friendship and the reactions between them are deleted, and the other family isn't sent a message about it. Kids can remove friends themselves too. To pause everything instead, choose Switch off on the same tab.

Growth & health

What can I track in Growth & health?

In Parent mode, open your child's profile and choose the Growth & health tab. You can record height, weight, shoe and clothing sizes, milestones and memories (with age-based ideas and a sticker, no photos), health records (vaccinations, allergies, medicines and doctor or dentist visits, with optional reminders) and your own trackers, like sleep hours, a 1 to 5 mood scale or a yes/no habit.

Charts only ever show your child's own trend over time. There are no percentiles and no comparisons with other children. It's all free. The first time you use it, a parent reads how we look after this information and agrees before anything is saved.

Who can see my child's health records?

Owners and admins see and edit everything. Helpers, such as a babysitter or grandparent, only see current allergies and medicines, so they know what to do, and they can't change anything. Friends and other families never see any growth or health information.

Everything is encrypted field by field before it's stored, kept separate from the rest of your data and never saved on your device for offline use, so adding records needs a connection. Health reminder notifications only say a reminder is due, never the details. Read more in our privacy policy.

Can I print a summary for the doctor?
Yes. On your child's Growth & health tab, choose Print summary. You'll get a tidy page with their recent measurements, allergies, medicines, vaccinations and visits that you can print or save as a PDF from your browser's print menu. You can also download everything from Settings → Data & privacy → Export.
What does my child see?
Only their growth door: a playful height chart on their Me page with their avatar standing beside their pencil marks, their latest height and a cheerful line about how much they've grown. They never see weight, sizes, health records or trackers, and never any comparison with anyone else. You can switch the growth door off for each child in their profile settings.

Your data

How do I download my family's data?
In Parent mode go to Settings → Data & privacy → Export. You'll get a file with everything: profiles, tasks, coins, books, goals, growth and health records, friends and reactions, and more.
How do I delete a child's profile or our whole family?
Delete a child in Settings → Kids. To delete the whole family, the owner can go to Settings → Data & privacy → Delete family. Everything is permanently removed after 30 days (you can cancel until then). Deleting a child removes their growth and health records and their friendships straight away. See our privacy policy.
